The United States isn’t the only country seeing a rise in plastic surgeries – the United Kingdom is too. In fact, the UK has recently released data showing that breast augmentation is the most popular plastic surgery in the country.
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) reports there were 50,122 plastic surgeries performed in 2013. This is a 17% rise from 2012.
Breast augmentation was the most popular with 11,135 surgeries performed in 2013. This is a 13% increase from the year before.
This is a surprise for the plastic surgery community. Many plastic surgeons believed numbers would be low due to the recall of dangerous PIP breast implants. With the numbers growing despite the scandal, plastic surgeons are optimistic for an even better 2014.
Rajiv Grover, who is the president of BAPPS says:
“The continued double digit rise of cosmetic underlines the fact that whether it is breast augmentation or anti-aging procedures like face lifting the public are choosing tried and tested surgical methods rather than the magical-sounding quick fixes that fail to deliver promised results.”
